Ω This is the first edition of our ‘free to everyone’ media watch service, where we note items of interest to Powerband readers from general climbing media.

First up we have this thread from New Zealand’s premier website for inclement teacup weather, mountaiNZ:

http://www.mountainz.co.nz/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1030

Note the post from “Wild Mountain Thyme”, a not-so-subtle dig at bouldering and, in particular, the recent Peter Allison incident at Flock Hill. Powerband wonders if WMT’s avatar (of him/her standing on top of a boulder) is “inversely ironic” in this context. Or maybe he/she was just training for a lower Tasman glacier ropeless descent? Ω

  1. Kopp says:

Man, that guy has unwittingly made being a fat, useless boulderer from Wellington seem not that bad!

  2. Gomez says:

“I think that people must be still out there doing stuff in the mountains but they just can’t be bothered sending it in anymore because it seems to be a waste of time.”

What WMT meant to say is “I think people aren’t out there doing stuff in the mountains because they can’t be bothered doing it anymore because it seems to be a waste of time.”

I happen to know the news editor of the climber and I know for a fact that almost every piece of alpine ‘news’ is included, because there is so little. In fact, things alpine are included that by rock climbing standards would not be considered newsworthy. It turns out alpine climbers are the cry babies!

  3. Pete says:

From my recollection no tear was shed, not by me or my “crybaby mates”. Can I have a swing at wild pansy’s leg with an axe and see if he complains afterwards?

  4. Gomez says:

    I wouldn’t have a problem with that.

  5. General Rodriquez says:

Love it now that people are now complaining on that post about “never being asked” by the Climber or anyone to provide a article. Stand up and be counted people. Do you have to be asked before you do anything these days? Common!

I’d suggest the person in question writes a article about the time he was on a NZAC trip up at Tukino and desperately trying to hit on one of the girls, suffered total and utter rejection and then to add insult to injury had to watch one of my mates walk off into the sunset with her after a 5 min conversation. Now that would be a great article!
