Ω A team of young thrusters hit the Hawkes Bay’s finest bouldering location, Blowhard Bush, on the weekend.  Rumours of a rampage are filtering through.  Crippled field correspondent, Peter ‘I’m so rad it hurts you to think about me snapping my leg in half, doesn’t it’ Allison reports via SMS:

“Caught up with lukemia, bob and conan - they were dynamic, really inspired me to grow a bunch of bone and get straight back out there”

8a.nu is also abuzz with tales of climbing hysteria in the Hawkes Bay:

“What are the future climbing trends at Blowhard Bush. How will the Hawkes Bay climbing scene look like in 2020? Here are some speuculations?
1. Ivan will be twice as big
2. All major cities in the Hawkes Bay will serve western food
3. Climbing gatherings/competitions at Blowhard Bush
4. Hawkes Bay will host the special Olympics
5. More loop tracks and short bush walks
6. Lower boulders with carjacks and shovels
7. 50% of indoor climbers are called Bob
8. 8a will provide online topos for all 5 climbs in the Hawkes Bay”

So things are getting interesting. Stayed tuned, we will update this report as more details come to hand. Ω

Hey JP, have you thought of getting some photography tips from Connie?

  2. JP says:

Update: Bob almost sent Levitation V8 (the big link up in the Bedroom Cave), stopped only by uncertainty about where the problem actually finished. He also added a new problem Tesla V7. Conan repeated a bunch of V6/7s in the Bedroom Cave, and Divination V7 on the Troglodyte Wall.

  3. Ryan says:

Choice! Glad Pete made it up there, even if he was stuck campusing. Stoked to hear about Tesla! Was that the line breaking up and right from the start of Reactor?

  4. Lukemia says:

Sure was Ryan. Turns out the key was using two really small crimps and a sloper to get up to the big sloper/pinch thing.

  5. Bob says:

sure was, had it already been done?

  6. Ryan says:

Nope, bro, but it had been tried a bunch. You definitely bagged the FA–nice one!

Stuck in Hawkes Bay for a few weeks over Xmas. Would I be wasting my time to try to find this place or should I go down to Mitre 10 and try to boulder a pile of moss covered stepping stones?

If it is worth a visit some vague directions would be awesome as I suspect the official powerband guide is along way away.

  8. JP says:

Actually there is a PDF guide floating around - I’ll make some enquiries to see if the chaps who produced it are happy for us to post it on PB. As for directions, just run a quick Google search on “Blow Hard Bush Reserve” and you’ll find all you need to know. The reserve is pretty small, and finding the rocks is pretty easy. As for whether it’s worth it? Well, IMHO the Troglodyte Wall is worth a visit, especially if you’re based in Hawkes Bay. There are some other bits and pieces worth a look too.

Thanks JP appreciate your help. Keep up the great work love reading the stories on here
